Meta Connect 2026: Meta Put VR, AI & Computer Into Pair of Glass

Published by The Smart Innovator™ Staff on

Meta Connect 2026 has turned into one of the company’s biggest hardware events yet. Meta has expanded its AI-glasses lineup, introduced its first-ever audio-only smart glasses, unveiled the next-generation Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, brought its Muse personal AI agent to glasses, and announced an entirely new category called Meta VR Glasses.

Meta Connect 2026: Meta Put VR, AI & Computer Into Pair of Glass

The Meta VR Glasses are particularly notable because they attempt to put a full virtual-reality and spatial-computing experience into a glasses-shaped device weighing around 100 grams. The company says the glasses will combine a personal cinema, private multi-screen workspace and gaming platform without putting a heavy headset on the user’s face.

Company also announced new VR games, Beat Saber updates, hologram calling and new features for its existing Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses.

Meta VR Glasses Are the Biggest Announcement

The headline product from Meta Connect 2026 is Meta VR Glasses, a completely new VR device designed to look and feel more like a pair of glasses than a traditional headset.

Meta says the device weighs approximately 100 grams, making it around five times lighter than Meta Quest 3. Instead of putting the processor, battery and storage on your face, Meta has moved those components into a separate puck connected to the glasses through an optical tether.

The glasses contain the display and sensors, while the puck provides the computing power and battery. It can be clipped to a pocket, belt or bag.

Meta VR Glasses Display

The device uses Meta’s 5K Infinite Display based on micro-OLED panels, with 37 pixels per degree. It also uses compact pancake lenses designed specifically for the glasses form factor.

Meta is targeting both entertainment and productivity. The display supports Dolby Vision, while Dolby Atmos spatial audio is built into the glasses.

The result is intended to be much closer to wearing a private giant screen than wearing a conventional VR headset.

Eyes and Hands Replace Controllers

Meta VR Glasses are designed around eye tracking and natural hand gestures rather than requiring traditional controllers for basic interaction.

Users can open applications, adjust their virtual workspace, play content and search for information using their eyes, hands and voice.

Comapny says its AI agent is integrated directly into the operating system, meaning users can also ask the glasses to perform tasks.

Meta VR Glasses Price and Release Date

Meta VR Glasses will launch in Spring 2027 at a starting price of $1,299.99.

That makes them significantly more expensive than the current Quest 3, but Meta is positioning the product differently. It is not simply presenting the device as another VR headset. The company wants it to function as a personal cinema, computer workspace, gaming system and communication device.

Meta VR Glasses Could Become a Portable Cinema

Entertainment is one of the major use cases Meta highlighted.

Meta VR Glasses will be the first VR device with IMAX Enhanced certification, according to Meta. The company is also working with major entertainment services to expand its 3D and immersive content library.

Disney+ subscribers will be able to watch selected movies in 3D in supported markets starting in November, while Meta is also working with Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, ESPN and Tubi.

Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ are also bringing their 3D catalogs to the platform.

Disney Immersive Cinema

Meta also announced Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM, which will offer VR-enhanced versions of films including Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope.

Instead of simply displaying a movie on a virtual screen, the experience can transform the user’s surroundings with 3D visuals, spatial audio and themed environments.

Meta VR Glasses Are Also a Portable Office

Meta is targeting another major problem: carrying a large monitor setup everywhere.

The glasses can create multiple virtual displays, allowing users to work with several screens without physically carrying monitors.

One particularly interesting feature is surface input. Meta says a table or desk can be turned into a virtual keyboard and touchpad, allowing users to interact with their workspace without carrying additional input hardware.

Full-color passthrough also allows users to see their physical surroundings, desk and smartphone while using the virtual workspace.

Hologram Calling Comes to Meta VR Glasses

Meta is also using the new glasses to push holographic communication.

With a short self-capture using a phone, users can create a photorealistic digital representation of themselves. During calls, the other person can see this hologram along with real-time expressions and reactions.

The feature is designed to work across calling applications including WhatsApp and Zoom.

For someone using Meta VR Glasses, the hologram appears in the user’s environment with spatial audio. A person joining from a phone or computer can also see the hologram on their screen.

Ray-Ban Meta Audio: Meta’s First Audio-Only AI Glasses

Not every new Meta glasses product has a camera or display.

Ray-Ban Meta Audio is Meta’s first audio-only glasses. Instead of cameras, the product focuses on open-ear audio, calls and AI assistance.

The glasses weigh just 43 grams and offer up to 12 hours of battery life. The charging case can provide up to another 48 hours.

They come in two new Ray-Ban styles:

  • Clubmaster — a retro-inspired Ray-Ban design
  • Burbank — a more traditional rectangular design

There are 23 color and lens combinations, and the glasses support a wide range of optical prescriptions.

Ray-Ban Meta Audio Price

Ray-Ban Meta Audio starts at $349 in the US. Pre-orders began at Connect, with shipping scheduled for October 13, 2026.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 Gets a Major Camera Upgrade

Meta also announced the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, the next generation of its camera-equipped AI glasses.

The new model has a slimmer design, a customizable action button and improved battery life.

FeatureRay-Ban Meta Gen 3
Camera12MP
Video3K Ultra HD
BatteryUp to 9 hours
Microphones6-mic array
Background noise reductionMore than 90% claimed reduction
StylesAviator, Zena and Wayfarer
Starting price$449

The six-microphone array is designed to reduce background noise during calls and voice interactions. Meta says it can cut more than 90% of background noise.

The glasses also introduce dynamic photos, allowing users to select the best frame from captured moments.

Dolby Atmos Comes to Meta AI Glasses

Meta says its AI glasses will become the first consumer device capable of capturing and experiencing video with Dolby Atmos spatial sound.

The feature is expected later in 2026 and is intended to make captured videos feel more immersive when played back.

Muse Is Coming to Meta AI Glasses

Perhaps the biggest software announcement is the arrival of Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, on its glasses.

Meta says users will eventually be able to activate Muse hands-free by saying their agent’s name. More importantly, Muse can understand what the wearer is looking at.

That means users could ask questions about a product on a store shelf, a poster, a document or a long list of items without first explaining what they are looking at.

Meta says Muse can then take action based on that context.

Muse Goes Beyond Simple Voice Commands

Meta is positioning Muse as an AI agent rather than simply a voice assistant.

The company says Muse can have longer conversations while performing work in the background. It is also gaining an email address and additional connectors for shopping and productivity services.

New integrations include services such as Walmart, Best Buy, Sephora, Wayfair, Expedia, Instacart, Notion, GitHub and Box, alongside payment support from Shop Pay and PayPal.

On Mac, Muse can now use computer applications with the user’s permission, allowing it to continue tasks after the user steps away from the computer.

Meta Ray-Ban Display Gets Hologram and Navigation Features

Meta’s existing Meta Ray-Ban Display also received several major updates at Connect.

The glasses are getting improved navigation, new applications and hologram-based video calls.

Hands-Free Navigation

Instead of relying only on street names, Meta says its navigation system can use recognizable landmarks. A walking instruction could refer to something visible in front of the wearer, such as a particular building or store.

Cycling directions and public-transit information are also coming to Meta Ray-Ban Display in supported markets.

Hologram Video Calls

Meta Ray-Ban Display users will be able to create a digital representation of themselves for calls.

The hologram is generated after a short capture process in the Meta AI app and can reproduce expressions based on the user’s voice and speech.

Company says early access will begin on WhatsApp in the US later this fall.

Meta Adds Hearing Enhancement to AI Glasses

Meta also announced a hearing-enhancement feature for supported AI glasses.

The company says the FDA-cleared software feature is designed for adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. It is expected to launch in the US later in 2026.

Meta says the feature will cost $149.99 as an add-on or be available through a Meta One subscription.

The company is also adding audio balance and mono-audio options, giving users more control over how sound is delivered.

More AI Features Are Coming to Meta Glasses

Meta’s software expansion goes beyond Muse.

The company announced features including:

  • Hands-free guided workouts for running and cycling
  • Nutrition tracking with personalized insights
  • AI-powered shopping that can identify products, prices and reviews
  • Voice-controlled shopping alerts and purchases
  • Landmark-based navigation
  • Custom gestures
  • Personalized audio
  • Smarter visual AI
  • Dolby Atmos video capture

This increasingly turns Meta’s glasses from companion accessories into hands-free computing devices.

Meta Plans More Than 100 AI Glasses Options

Meta is also expanding its hardware lineup through its partnership with EssilorLuxottica.

The company says there will be more than 100 AI glasses options across Ray-Ban, Oakley and Meta Glasses by the end of 2026.

The strategy includes different frame designs, prices, lenses and feature sets rather than forcing every customer into the same glasses.

New Meta Glasses Styles

Meta introduced new Capri and Nova frame shapes and expanded its collaboration lineup.

The company also announced a new LISA Edition collection, including Meta Adventurer and Meta Capri versions starting at $399.

A new Meta Adventurer with a plug-in case starts at $249, making it Meta’s lowest-priced Meta Glasses option announced at Connect.

Meta is also expanding its glasses to markets including Singapore, South Korea, Mexico and the UAE, with Brazil coming soon.

Beat Saber Is Getting Its Biggest Update Yet

Meta Connect 2026 wasn’t only about hardware.

Beat Saber is getting a major update called Flux in Spring 2027.

The new mode is designed around hand tracking, allowing players to use their hands rather than controllers to interact with the game.

The update will launch with 35 songs and will also introduce a refreshed campaign and new progression and reward systems.

New Meta VR Games Announced

Meta also announced a series of new games designed for its upcoming VR Glasses and existing Quest hardware.

What Meta Connect 2026 Means for VR

Meta’s announcements show two different directions for immersive computing.

Its traditional Quest platform continues to target dedicated VR users and gaming, while Meta VR Glasses attempt to reduce the physical barrier between VR and everyday computing.

The external compute puck is an important part of that strategy. It allows Meta to reduce the weight on the user’s face while still providing substantially more computing power than ordinary smart glasses.

The trade-off is that Meta VR Glasses are not completely self-contained. Users still need to carry the external puck and remain connected to it through the optical tether.

Is Meta Trying to Replace the Smartphone?

Meta is not saying that its glasses will replace smartphones overnight. However, the direction of its announcements is clear.

Meta wants glasses to handle more tasks that currently require taking a phone out of your pocket: navigation, translation, shopping, communication, photography, AI assistance, notifications and increasingly complex interactions with digital services.

Muse takes that idea further by giving the glasses an AI agent capable of understanding both conversation and visual context.

Meta VR Glasses take the concept in another direction by attempting to make virtual displays and spatial computing portable enough to use throughout the day.

These are still different product categories, but together they represent Meta’s broader attempt to move computing away from traditional screens.

What Was Not Announced at Meta Connect 2026?

Despite the huge glasses focus, Meta did not announce a conventional Quest 4 headset as the headline hardware product at Connect 2026.

Instead, the company used the event to introduce Meta VR Glasses as its next major VR platform while continuing to support Quest 3 and Quest 3S with new games and software.

That distinction matters because Meta VR Glasses are not simply being presented as the next numbered Quest headset. They represent a different hardware design and computing model.

The Bigger Picture: Meta Is Building an AI-and-Glasses Ecosystem

Meta Connect 2026 was less about one single gadget and more about building an ecosystem around glasses.

At one end are relatively conventional-looking audio glasses. In the middle are camera-equipped AI glasses such as Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 and display-equipped Meta Ray-Ban Display. At the high end is Meta VR Glasses, which add high-resolution displays, spatial computing and VR capabilities.

Muse is the software layer connecting these products.

The most important change may therefore not be the individual glasses announced at Connect. It is Meta’s attempt to make AI, audio, cameras, displays and spatial computing available through different forms of eyewear, depending on what the user actually needs.

Meta Connect 2026 suggests the company is betting that the next generation of personal computing will not necessarily require people to stare down at a phone or wear a large VR headset. Instead, Meta wants more computing to happen around the user — through glasses that can hear, see, understand and increasingly act on their behalf.
